The HIF has an exciting opportunity for an individual or group to participate in our Incinerator Challenge! We are seeking designs for an improved incinerator concept to burn medical waste in a humanitarian emergency.
In the acute stages of humanitarian emergencies such as floods, epidemics and conflicts there is a rapid demand for health facilities and therefore medical waste management. Current responses are often inefficient and poor performing causing serious concerns including disinfection capacity and volume reduction.
The Medical Waste Incinerator Challenge is an opportunity to change the way that humanitarian assistance is delivered on the ground. We are seeking a design concept for a simple, efficient and durable incinerator that is safe to operate and affordable in low-middle income countries.
- $5,000prize is available for the three most promising designs
- $15,000prize is available for one design to be developed into a prototype and be tested in the field
